J. Harold Gibbons (1878-1958) designed St Francis of Assisi church in 1933; the construction is of yellow stock brick and interior finish in concrete. The style recalls the country churches of Umbria, the native province of St Francis and the building consists of nave, north and south aisles, north and south transepts, chancel, east chapel and a small central bell-cote. The stained glass in the east window and chapel were designed by M.Rope in 1933. The painting on the east wall is by James Bateman.
